Review: BoozeBud Advent Calendar 2016 Days 1-5

I bought Eli a BoozeBud Advent Calendar for Christmas, which is apparently the best gift I have ever given her! Coming in a $4 a beer, it’s good value if you want to test out a bunch of beers on your loved one. Plus you know, they have to think about each of the flavours, not just drink them all at the Brewery…

Days 1-5

Day 1: Two Birds – Sunset Ale. Fruity, hopsy taste. It was a nice refreshing beer, could only have one or two though. The beer colour was darker than I expected.

Day 2: Fixation Brewing Company – India Pale Ale. Went down well, quickly gone. Quite hopsy but nice.

Day 3: Colonial Brewing Co. – Small Ale. Had a weird can with a whole lift off lid! Thumbs up! Not too hopsy, cool and refreshing. Could drink a slab on a hot summer’s day.

Day 4: Mornington Peninsula Brewery – Mornington Pale. Not bad. This is a standard 20 minute beer for me – golden flavour and a nice taste. I’ve had this one before.

Day 5: Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company – Hefeweizen. A very small head, quite wiffy when opened. Not sure about this one… Really not to my taste. Something weird about the combination of flavours, I wouldn’t recommend it. Couldn’t finish drinking it.

It was a toss up between Days 3 and 4, but Day 3 won out – Colonial Brewing Co. Small Ale. The flavour was smooth and the can was cute.

Colonial Brewing Co. – Small Ale

Colonial’s Small Ale is big on taste and refreshment, and particularly well flavoured for a mid-strength hoppy ale. Like a punch up the nose with a tangerine, Small Ale is full of citrus aromatics owing to its extended contact with New World hops. Soft in bitterness, and carrying cheeky hints of sweet caramel malts, this brew has a copper ruby tint in the sunlight, is only 3.5% and responsibly delicious.
