It’s more me wanting to do this, I manage all of the finances, but Eli is also on board.

Day 13:

I refuse to waste my money on the notion that there’s something wrong with how I naturally look.

I am lazy. I don’t put on makeup. I don’t generally buy new clothes. I wear makeup on job interviews because it is what is expected, but I think once I got the job, I would go back to being lazy! I look just fine the way I am, and the important people in my life don’t care what I look like.

Day 14:

Empower yourself!

I shop at the discount store, Aldi. There are very few things I don’t buy there, unless they are specialty things. For example, I’ve just made home made hummus for the first time, in an effort to reduce the dried pantry contents. But I had to go out of my way to a different grocery store to buy tahini to go in it. I managed not to buy anything else, yay!

Day 15:

Frugality and Friendship are compatible!

For the first (well second, if you count our housewarming) time ever, we’re going to be hosting a get-together at our house. It’s an afternoon event, so no need to provide lunch. We are going to provide nibbles, but I asked people to bring a plate. We’ll see how it goes. My homemade hummus and crackers will be a frugal treat.

Day 16:

There is no excuse for takeout!

What irony. I actually have takeout for the first time in ages today, not because I was too lazy for a meal, but because Eli craved some fish and chips. Normally I have a freezer stocked with meals, and noodles and sauce in the drawer for instant meals!

Day 17:

Establish frugal habits and execute on them every day.

I am trying to instigate making more food at home – including yoghurt, sour cream and other things. I need to get into making main meals for when we get a homestay student and need to provide 3 square meals per day.

I need to come up with a long term plan – make plans of how to actually pay off our mortgage by the end of the year. The only problem is that both our employment situations are dicey at the moment. Eli is looking for a new job, and my steady income will die at the end of April.

Day 18:

Squelch the need to treat yo’self.

Oh hell. I suck. I want to feel a bit guilty for getting takeout yesterday – but I don’t. I paid for it out of our small change fund (sorry Non-Consumer Advocate) and it was really enjoyed.

I will treat myself – but only on household goods I need such as glass containers!

January’s running expenses (and a catalogue of posts in this series so far):

None

swim -$17.40, PayPal payment for Lego sale $69.40

None

None

apricots for drying -$100, eggs and cockroach bait -$23.10, disposable wipes -$3.99, found $10!

None

None

petrol for both cars -$77.96

fruit and veggies for the guest we had staying -$26.30

None

money onto public transport cards -$20

groceries for the guest we had staying -$106.22

parking in the city -$47!!!!!

none

none

none. Potential future income from homestay students.

fish and chips -$23

none

As part of a semi-serious New Year’s Resolution (and both of us looking for new jobs), we thought we’d attempt the Uber Frugal Month by Mrs.…

Continue readingUber Frugal Month 2017: Days 13-18

[17,67
This is my second attempt at an Uber-Frugal Month: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6 Day 7: I will eat everything I buy at the grocery store (and in the veggie box I get delivered!)!
